If you look at the style that japanese use when they draw (in their cartoons) you can see that most characters don’t have a nose or a very small one. these kids just see it in the cartoons they watch and then that’s what they go after when they draw.
Regarding noses, asian noses tend to be much smaller than caucasian ones to begin with, so it’s not a body part that gets a lot of emphasis. I would imagine that seeing someone with a large nose for the first time would be a bit unsettling. Grotesque, perhaps. And I always got the impression that the Japanese consider noses to be sort of embarrassing.
Oh, and noses are hard to draw anyway, so that’s an added bonus to skipping them altogether.

Ok.. seriously.. what do the Japanese have against noses!??! It’s become an epidemic!
It’s a manga design trait. Japanese cartoon and comic book characters generally have very small or no noses. It’s a cultural thing.
I bet this is the kid of that weird Henry Rollins foot guy from a previous post.

I am very aware of anime style.. I have just always wondered what the deal was with omitting noses?? That has always baffled me!
Now, my question is this.. how old are these kids because some of these drawings are quite good! Very talented! (even though they have no noses!) lol

Does that help?
