Suicide Girls Love Henry Rollins

Click link for forum discussion… did you know Henry Rollins is a pole dancer?

Suicide Girls… what a FRAUD that website turned out to be. In the early days users were lead to believe it was a female run site.. when in reality the girlfriend of the guy who ran it was shoved out front to do media and told what to say. Models have been ripped off, underpaid, given dodgy restrictive contracts, and SG has sold photographs and content from their site to porn sites that degrade and exploit women, the kind of porn that Suicide Girls was meant to be a reaction against. Back in 2005 and ex Suicide Girl model said:

“What’s going on right now is a slap in the face to feminism,” says Jennifer Caravella, a/k/a Sicily, a thin, raven-haired woman with nipple piercings and big eyes. “If Suicide Girls portrayed themselves as Hustler, or Playboy, that would be fine, whatever — people have the right to make their own choices. But don’t pretend to be alternative and punk rock. There’s nothing punk rock about that Web site.” Source.

It’s the deception that’s the worst part. And the fact that zillions of so called punk rock girls are now making it their life’s purpose to model for a corporation that seeks to exploit them. Hustler, Suicide Girls… same shit (behind the scenes), different shovel. Anyone who pays money to Suicide Girls for site membership and merch is a participant in this exploitation. Type ‘boycott suicide girls’ into your googles to learn more.

Oh wait…. this is a Henry Rollins blog… not a feminist rant blog. Oh well. DEAL.

Dear Henry, Will You Join My Band?

And another one…

Here’s another Rollins Band fan video of ‘Disconnect’

Rollins Band Fan Video Clips

This genre of vids are springing up all over You Tube. Fans taking a song and making their own video to it. Here’s one for the Rollins Band track “Disconnect”

CABLE INTERNET FAIL

Unfortunately I’ve exceeded the limit on my “unlimited” internet account (yeah, go figure), so they’ve slowed down my account to a point that makes it barely useable. Can check email, that’s about it. Consequently all planned Hello Henry posts will be on a hold till next week sometime… and no Harmony In My Head for me on Saturday. Thank goodness for the Rollins-Archive!.

Btw, in case you didn’t catch the news, HIMH is moving to KCRW.com. Which means the show will be broadcast live once again. Check out dispatches for the press release. It’s great that the show will be back live on the air real soon. You can still catch HIMH on Indie for the next two weeks.

The Henry Rollins School Of Neck

A college degree in neck? That’s what this dude is proposing on his blog. (Note, that’s the Henry Rollins School of Neck, not necking, ladies, stay with us….). ““Hi, guys. If you’re like me and enjoy the freedom and accessibility that a large neck can bring then please, stop by and pick up a fall schedule and promotional brochure.” Check out the blog post and see the alumni, it’s hilarious!  In addition to the items mentioned in the college gift shop, I’d would suggest a range a products bearing the phrase “Got Neck?”.

Henry Rollins Photograph by Lili Wilde

If you’re into rock photography, you may have noticed that in recent years more and more photographers from back in the day are uploading their old photos to online portfolios and flickr. There’s lots of cool stuff out there for children of the 90s. The other day I stumbled across this photo of Henry Rollins by Lilly Wilde. Rare to see a photo of Henry Rollins not staring down the camera. Click the image to visit the gallery.

Henry Rollins Hates Writing

There’s a lil’ discussion going on over at Team Rollins forum about Rollins quotes, which reminded me about this quote on writing:

“I hate writing,” he says. “I just wish I could stop but I can’t. Writing is not a joy to me. The better you get at it, the harder it is, because it’s less time that you bullshit yourself. I’ve met a handful of writers and they’re pretty miserable people. Because they know that the beast is sitting in the room saying, ‘come on. You know you’ve been playing around with your friends long enough. Back to class.’” – Henry Rollins (Source: Pop Entertainment)

Which in turn reminded me of this gem of a quote on the subject from Germaine Greer:

“I have to write. It’s a bit like shitting. It’s quite nice. Especially if you do it nicely. You know, if a nice well forced piece emerges. But if it’s coming in dribs and drabs or not coming at all, or being forced out, if you’re missing the rhythm somewhere, it’s no pleasure at all. And yet sometimes there’s an enormous pressure to do it. An not much pleasure when it’s finished.” – Germaine Greer, Playboy Magazine Interview, 1972.
