How did you get into Henry Rollins?

When did you become a fan? I have to say I feel rather old when I meet teenagers who became fans of Rollins after watching his TV show. I became a fan back in 1994 after hearing the Rollins Band watching ‘Talking From the Box’. I can’t imagine how weird it must be for fans from waaay back in the day!

I just posted a new discussion over at our Team Rollins community forum asking how everyone became a fan. With his vast body of work covering many mediums and many years, the entry points to Rollins fandom are infinite! I’ve kicked things off the discussion with my story, head on over to the forum to read it and add yours!

Me too… first heard Damaged as a junior in high school (’84), and was just blown away by the raw energy.

Seeing Black Flag live in 1984 (Milestone Club, Charlotte NC), and then Rollins Band at the 9:30 in ’94 (warm-up gig for the Weight tour) were experiences that changed my life.

      WWHRD?

I had heard of him before but I wasn’t interested until I saw his tv show. I was born in 1991, so of course I’m a bit late to the fandom or whatever.

Unrelated – Does anyone know why google recently tagged The Henry Rollins News Page with that “this site may harm your computer” link?

My husband is a big music buff, and he would listen to Black Flag and The Rollins Band. I really became a huge fan with the IFC Show and catching his spoken word. But what I lack in length, I make up for in intensity. That’s what she said.

I first heard the last Blag Flag album, “Who’s Got the 10 and 1/2?” in the late 80′s which was recorded in my hometown on Portland, Oregon. I then purchased “The End of Silence” in 1992 and then several Rollins books over the next few years including “Now Watch Him Die,” “See a Grown Man Cry,” “Bang!,” and “The Art to Choke Hearts & Pissing in the Gene Pool.” Since then I have seen Rollins live numerous times both speaking and singing and now own all of his material. He had a major influence on me as a young man which helped me to make different choices in a more positive direction.

    Bri,
Mark Weddele, the owner of the Rollins newspage, has stated thst his site was tagged with a virus. He’s having a hard time getting rid of it. I’d email him before checking it out.
