As I was waking from my sleep this morning, Henry Rollins said to me, as I passed him in the subway: “In existentialism, I exist.” Well, that was a nerdy way to start the day! Henry Rollins used to pop up in my dreams quite a bit. I always dream about people. In recent months I’ve been hit by a Richard Armitage dream tsunami (hello to our UK friends!). Henry Rollins seems to have dropped off my dream roster of late so this morning was a rare cameo. HR and I have shared a plate of spaghetti, been deployed in clandestine operations, he’s punched my dad in the face (awesome!), and sneaked me into a gig to see Magic Dirt.

I’ve had my share of naughty Henry dreams *wink wink*. However, I’ve had dreams that he and I were great friends and would hang out. In one dream, I was in a band that he invited to tour with him.

That’s actually how I became a fan girl. I had a dream about Henry Rollins and the next day I heard he was going to be nearby. And the rest is history. And my story is boring.
That’s a pretty unorthodox route to becoming a fan, cool!
OMG Richard Armitage! I’m 35 and with the wisdom of someone who lived through the 80s and hair metal, I can with authority say that NOBODY does black leather like Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisborne. *drool* I have his picture on my office wall right next to Dear Henry, above David Tennant and to the right of Alexander Skarsgård. It’s my wall of YUM.
As for Dear Henry, anytime he makes an appearance in my dreams it’s usually a walking dream, as in me accompanying him on one of his epic walks and talking about music and things each of us has seen and kind of comparing notes. How lame-tame is that? Not even a “Ride me! Ride my Raging, storm swept heart!” to be found.

I had a dream that Henry & I explored an abandoned city together (in the dream, we were made of food?)
You were made of food? Brilliant! What kind? And I have to ask – did you take a bite?
We had tangerines for hands and like pumpkin innards as hair (you know when you carve a pumpkin? and inside is all stringy and mushy? yeah). And no, I didn’t take a bite, as we seemed to be slightly rotting. But we did find an abandoned bakery and eat all the leftover chocolate chips.
Tangerine hands.. that sounds like something out of a Beatles song! Nice touch with the choc chips. What a weird and wonderful dream!
Black Flag played my local pizza parlor. Henry bought me a slice of pizza because I was out of money. Then we walked to my local record store, and Henry got me a copy of Raw Power, and said that it’s an album everyone should own. I recommended he check out Hawkwind, and he got Warrior on the edge of time. Then we saw Bad Brains play a show on the beach ( like literally, in the fucking sand) and HR blew pot smoke in Henry’s face. Henry then proceeded to literally throw HR hundreds of feet deep into the ocean. Then Glenn Danzig came running on the beach, dressed in a bathing suit, a hawaiian shirt, and adidas slip on sandals to tell me that I had a cheesesteak waiting for me back at the black flag show at the pizza parlor. I think about food and violence and hardcore too much.

I was wondering through a mall, one of those freaky, giant, every store in existence under one roof kind of places. As I walked alone along through the crowds, I could feel a set of eyes burning into me. I would stop and look around, and see Henry darting around clothes racks, ducking behind other people or peering at me through the leaves of potted plants. There were a ton of potted plants, so alot of peeking through leaves. Very green, very creepy. Everytime I looked Henry seemed to be getting closer and closer. He never said a word, but would glare and shake his head or nod and smile at whatever it was that I would be looking at or thinking of buying. By the end of the dream, although he still hadn’t said a single word to me, I was able to have him to carry a few packages for me. It was a very weird dream, I have absoulutely no idea of what it means. I am now slightly paranoid about shopping alone. Should I buy this? Will Henry approve?……

I have absolutely no idea what I bought or what stores I went into. The funny thing is that I hate the mall. If I go there, it’s to hit only 2 stores, check their clearance racks, and then get the hell out of there! Other than the stalking and scaring the hell out of me, Henry was a complete gentleman. I think the dream came from listening to Henry’s story about meeting Iggy Pop. The bit about staring at him trough the palm fronds. For some reason the thought of him hiding from other celebrities behind plants really amuses me.

I was hanging with Black Flag in their old LA studio, it was 83 ish, I guess. But HR looked as he does now (short grey hair). I remember Gregg and Robo there (not a consistent timeline, I know). I went to get an egg sandwich with HR at the local 7/11. He starts berating this homeless man for reasons I forget. Then the dream changed to something else.
I had a dream Henry was in my kitchen making lemon squares with me. Seriously.
Lemon squares? How awesome! Interesting that many folks seem to dream about Henry with food.
