There’s a great interview with Henry Rollins in MCV (Melbourne Community Voice for Gay and Lesbian Readers). Henry has lots of cool things to say, as usual. Check it out!
Here’s a sweet sample:
“.. according to Rollins, he had “no idea [America] had so many lunatics”. “Barack Obama certainly brought all the racists out of the woodwork, and they’re making their presence known … I also think some people resent him because he’s smart. He’s a guy who the rest of the world likes, and I think some Americans like a President the rest of the world fears. And Obama doesn’t want to be feared. I don’t want my country being feared, thank you very much.”
Henry Rollins appeared on the Australian radio station Triple J yesterday and revealed the five bands he wished he had fronted (Hey, Triple stupid! Why do you only play Black Flag when Rollins is in the studio?). You can listen to the hour long segment HERE. HR played:
1. The Stains – Sick n’ Crazy
2. Negative Trend – How Ya Feeling
3. The Ruts – In A Rut
4. The Saints – Demolition Girl (live at the Hope & Anchor)
5. Big Brother and the Holding Company – Ball and Chain
Man, I can’t believe how few posts there’s been on Hello Henry the past month. It has flown by. I’ve been busy writing up my PhD and trying to keep a roof over my head (saw the Pixies too, freakin awesome!). Thank you to everyone who has emailed in Henry related links and goodies – I couldn’t do this blog without you! I’m posting a selection of them below, more will be posted later in the week.
3. Guntattoogirl sent in a link to an interview with Henry Rollins on Village Voice in which HR insists he is not a renaissance man, he just likes to stay busy. Three words Henry: Beg. To. Differ. Check it out here.
4. Henry continues to shoot from the hip in his regular gig at Vantity Fair. mseidler suggested we take a look at his recent post on the Texas textbook controversy.
5. Black Flag gets a mention on SNL’s “Flags of the World” (thanks to VJESCI!)
I was having a conversation with someone I barely knew recently, just as I was thinking what a friendly, reasoned soul she was, she blurted out her disapproval of homosexuality. I felt like I had been transported to a different decade (or country)! When you’re surrounded by more progressive folks most of the time, sometimes you forget how the other half think.
Which brings us to the subject of today’s post. Henry Rollins’ latest piece at Vanity Fair. As usual, he has his unusual take on things, quite awesome!
Hello Henry reader VJESCI alerted us to an interview with Henry Rollins by Mark Simpson, a journalist who is credited as the first person to use the term ‘metrosexual’ in print. The interview originally appeared in Attitude Magazine, September 1998.
I’m sure you’ve all seen the Sex Pistol’s Nevermind the Bollocks album cover parodied by other bands a zillion times. Now it’s the Rollins Band’s turn to receive the parody treatment. Hello Henry reader, Amelia, spotted this parody of the ‘Search and Destory’ logo on MySpace:
Nice! The band is Death O’Connor, originally from Scotland and now based in Australia. Check out their myspace page: www.myspace.com/deathohconnor.
