Status Update

Greetings HR fanatics. It’s been three long weeks between posts. Here’s an update on what’s happening in Hello Henry land.

TEAM ROLLINS FAN FORUM
The plans for the Henry Rollins discussion forum are going ahead. As I mentioned previously the domain name has been registered, I just gotta find some time to get it all happening. My plate is full at the moment with work and my research, so I may end up hiring someone to set it up for us (I’ve already got someone in mind who has extensive experience with the software I want to use.. so I don’t need any volunteers for that job, thanks!). From July Ning is phasing out it’s free service. I’ll try and transfer the forum to an alternative, interim service until the new one is ready.

HELLO HENRY LOVE.. IN ALL THE WRONG DIRECTIONS
I’ve recently been informed that some folk are under the false impression that a group who go by the name ‘the crew’ are the authors of this blog. This is not true. This blog is written and produced SOLELY by yours truly, Skully. I am not affiliated with anyone or any group, nor do I own any other Rollins related blogs or websites. ‘The Crew’ have told me that they often receive emails from people telling them how much they love Hello Henry. Dudes, if you love Hello Henry, you can tell me…. I won’t reject you. You don’t have to thank random fans you encounter on facebook, mywaste or twitface or where ever the hell it is the kids hang out these days.

THAT TWO TIMING BITCH!
I have a confession to make. One of the reasons for my intermittent posting on this blog of late, apart from my study commitments, is that I’m seeing someone else. The truth is that I’m a two-timing blog whore. I’ve been blogging somewhere else behind your back. I want to reassure you that the Hello Henry blog will always be my first blog love. I don’t want to break up… it’s just that I need to see other blogs. It’s not you, it’s me. If we are to continue in this relationship it has to be on an open basis. You’re hip enough to deal, right? It’s only fair, anyway, it’s not like you don’t see other blogs too… I’ve had a lot of thangs going on lately so it’s just been hard to find the time to update. I hope to get back into posting regularly very soon. Thanks for continuing to stick around and support Hello Henry. It will be Hello Henry’s third birthday in October of this year. I think I’ll bake a cake… three cakes, even. Awesome.

Team Rollins is on the move

I’ve just learned that the website where the Team Rollins forum is hosted, Ning, will be ending its free forum service from July. They will be offering a paid service, however I am not prepared to pay $20 a month to keep it going. You may recall a little while ago that I canvassed the idea of setting up a new forum. Given the impending changes at Ning, it now seems that this would be a good idea. So I the coming months, I’ll be setting up a basic, self-hosted message board (using MyBB) on a new domain. It will be a simple forum to begin with. We’ll give it a bash and see how it goes. If it doesn’t work out, all it would have cost is the price of a domain name and some time. No dramas. If it goes well (which I think it will!) then we’ll have a sweet lil’ place for fans to hang and talk Rollins. To everyone who kindly volunteered to help moderate the new forum, I’ll be in touch in a few weeks or so to discuss this some more.

Hello Henry MIA

Hey folks, my apologies for being MIA the past couple of weeks. It’s the writer’s curse. I’ve been working furiously on a new project that has had me transfixed and incapable of diverting my attention elsewhere. I hope to redress my Hello Henry neglect over the Easter break. Thanks for sticking around and I hope you have a chocolate filled holiday (if you’re lucky enough to have one – a holiday, or chocolate, or both!)

Ghost emails from Hello Henry – an explanashun!

I’ve you’ve ever received a reply from Hello Henry to one of the comments you’ve posted on this blog, you may have received an email notification to let you know – but with nothing in it. It seems that Hello Henry has been plagued by a spate of BLOG COMMENT REPLY NOTIFICATION EMAIL FAIL! I don’t know how long this has been going on. A couple of courteous readers recently gave me a heads up (thank you!). I’ve remedied this situation with a new plugin that will notify you via email when someone has replied to your comment. Your email address will be kept private, of course. I hope that this, and the new threaded comment system will make for a better Hello Henry commenting experience!

Henry Rollins Forum Update – Feedback please!

Well, we were completely underwhelmed by responses to the forum idea, but overwhelmed with offers from some fantastic readers of this blog to help moderate a forum, should it get up and running. Since starting this blog in 2007 I’ve had many requests from readers to start a forum – so I know there is interest out there, but without your feedback it’s difficult to gauge how much.

So, let me spell out a little clearer what a Henry Rollins forum might look like. I’d really appreciate hearing from you what kind of things you would like in the forum and whether you would be interested in participating in such a forum; even if your response is no.

What would the forum be like?
Obviously, there would be boards to chat about the different aspects of HR’s work – music, books, spoken word, film and tv, radio, side projects, etc., and a place for traders too. And as HR fans tend to be a rather multi-dimensional lot, I think that a space to talk about non-HR topics would also be appropriate (music, travel, books, politics, fun stuff, etc.). So I would envisage the HR forum being a community of people, some who just want to chat about HR, and others who want to chat with like-minded folk about non-HR stuff too. With the first four Ramones albums under our belts I’m sure we’d get along just fine.

Your feedback and ideas
So now it’s over to you. I’m not going into this much detail about a forum because I have my heart set on creating one – it would involve some work to set up and time is not something I have buckets of. However, considering that Hello Henry is a focal point for HR fans on the internet, I feel some community spirited obligation to make a forum happen if that’s what the fans want.

Please respond in the comments section below with your ideas for a HR forum and indicate whether you would be interested in participating in a HR forum (even if it was just occasionally). Thank you!

If you would rather comment privately, please email me via the contact page.

Fanatics! Do you want a Henry Rollins Forum?

Hey everyone, I have a question for you all. Would you like Hello Henry to set up a discussion forum on this site? The Team Rollins forum on Ning is cool but I wondered if some might prefer a more traditional type forum. There doesn’t seem to be an active Rollins forum out there (please correct me if I’m wrong). I was thinking along the lines of MyBB. And if such a forum was set up, I’d need some folks to moderate it – any volunteers?

Please comment below and let me know what you think!

Henry Rollins fans on the Twitters

Although Henry Rollins does not tweet, some of his fans sure do. I don’t quite understand the appeal of twitter myself, but I must admit it can be interesting to see what people are saying about ole HR, particularly while he is on tour. Heaps of people are tweeting about his shows the past few nights. “Inspiring” seems to be the most commonly used word to describe them. Pretty cool. Here are a few tweets about last night’s show:

AllieRaymond: Henry Rollins. Dude talked for three and a half hours without a break and without a drink of water. I was exhausted. He is not human!

rndmidnightbar: owners went to see Henry Rollins last night. The man should be on compulsory prescription for anyone disaffected with the world.

crikeyabi: Does Henry Rollins have ADD? 3 hours talking without even a drink of water. What a legend.

ADD? If the dude had Attention Deficit Disorder he could hardly concentrate for three hours! It’s more like ADHD, without the AD! Anyways, the purpose of this post is to tell you that Hello Henry has a new page that displays a live feed of the latest tweets about Henry Rollins. You can check it out here: http://hellohenry.com/twitter. It’s updated in real time. You can access it anytime by clicking the blue bird at the top of this page. Will it be an interesting read or a load of boring bollocks? Let’s find out…
