Henry Rollins Forum Update – Feedback please!

Well, we were completely underwhelmed by responses to the forum idea, but overwhelmed with offers from some fantastic readers of this blog to help moderate a forum, should it get up and running. Since starting this blog in 2007 I’ve had many requests from readers to start a forum – so I know there is interest out there, but without your feedback it’s difficult to gauge how much.

So, let me spell out a little clearer what a Henry Rollins forum might look like. I’d really appreciate hearing from you what kind of things you would like in the forum and whether you would be interested in participating in such a forum; even if your response is no.

What would the forum be like?
Obviously, there would be boards to chat about the different aspects of HR’s work – music, books, spoken word, film and tv, radio, side projects, etc., and a place for traders too. And as HR fans tend to be a rather multi-dimensional lot, I think that a space to talk about non-HR topics would also be appropriate (music, travel, books, politics, fun stuff, etc.). So I would envisage the HR forum being a community of people, some who just want to chat about HR, and others who want to chat with like-minded folk about non-HR stuff too. With the first four Ramones albums under our belts I’m sure we’d get along just fine.

Your feedback and ideas
So now it’s over to you. I’m not going into this much detail about a forum because I have my heart set on creating one – it would involve some work to set up and time is not something I have buckets of. However, considering that Hello Henry is a focal point for HR fans on the internet, I feel some community spirited obligation to make a forum happen if that’s what the fans want.

Please respond in the comments section below with your ideas for a HR forum and indicate whether you would be interested in participating in a HR forum (even if it was just occasionally). Thank you!

If you would rather comment privately, please email me via the contact page.

Fanatics! Do you want a Henry Rollins Forum?

Hey everyone, I have a question for you all. Would you like Hello Henry to set up a discussion forum on this site? The Team Rollins forum on Ning is cool but I wondered if some might prefer a more traditional type forum. There doesn’t seem to be an active Rollins forum out there (please correct me if I’m wrong). I was thinking along the lines of MyBB. And if such a forum was set up, I’d need some folks to moderate it – any volunteers?

Please comment below and let me know what you think!

Henry Rollins fans on the Twitters

Although Henry Rollins does not tweet, some of his fans sure do. I don’t quite understand the appeal of twitter myself, but I must admit it can be interesting to see what people are saying about ole HR, particularly while he is on tour. Heaps of people are tweeting about his shows the past few nights. “Inspiring” seems to be the most commonly used word to describe them. Pretty cool. Here are a few tweets about last night’s show:

AllieRaymond: Henry Rollins. Dude talked for three and a half hours without a break and without a drink of water. I was exhausted. He is not human!

rndmidnightbar: owners went to see Henry Rollins last night. The man should be on compulsory prescription for anyone disaffected with the world.

crikeyabi: Does Henry Rollins have ADD? 3 hours talking without even a drink of water. What a legend.

ADD? If the dude had Attention Deficit Disorder he could hardly concentrate for three hours! It’s more like ADHD, without the AD! Anyways, the purpose of this post is to tell you that Hello Henry has a new page that displays a live feed of the latest tweets about Henry Rollins. You can check it out here: http://hellohenry.com/twitter. It’s updated in real time. You can access it anytime by clicking the blue bird at the top of this page. Will it be an interesting read or a load of boring bollocks? Let’s find out…

Hello Henry Supports the West Memphis Three

hhwm3

This is the one and only time you will see a photo of me on this blog… ok, not all of me… but the important bit, which is the t-shirt I’m sporting. The West Memphis Three, who I’m sure you’re all familiar with by now, are progressing closer and closer to the federal court, where it is hoped that a fair trial will finally take place. The complex and drawn out legal process requires money, and lots of it. So if you have $10, $20, $25 to spare, please click on the image above and get yourself a WM3 tee. Check out the latest news and fund raising events too… (and the blue vein action on my left hand… crikey!).

We now have some fancy social bookmarking buttons so you can spread the Hello Henry love across the internets with ease. In just a few clicks you can submit to Digg, Delicious, Stumble Upon, Twitter, Facebook, Twitface and more!

Hello Fanatics!

Four posts in one day, it’s a Hello Henry postin’ frenzy! I know things have been quiet around here and for that I do apologize. Thanks for all the emails. I’m replying and posting your goodies as quick as I can, please keep them coming. After running my business and conducting ground breaking PhD research (note the sarcasm folks) I’m pretty knackered by the end of the day. I hadn’t checked the Team Rollins forum for a while, it’s great to see so many new members, 83 in total now! There’s almost 80 photos in the Hello Henry Flickr Group too.

I don’t know about you guys but the Music Today website makes my web browser freeze up. Even though I was late to the game I was pleased to find signed copies of A Mad Dash still available. I just purchased mine. The whopping shipping fee hurt a bit though…

Now, what’s this I hear about a Nobel Prize for sex?

Contribute to Hello Henry!

Dear Hello Henry Readers,

As some of you may or may not be aware, I’ve been undertaking post-graduate study on and off for the past few years. After a six month break I’ve returned to study this week to finish my PhD over the next 12 months (and no, it’s not a “PhD in Bullshit” although it certainly feels that way sometimes!). It’s only day two and already my coffee consumption has tripled (thanks to everyone who bought me a coffee btw, much appreciated!) and periods of time has been spent curled up the fetal position rocking back and forth mumbling about flying monkeys. Doing a PhD means stress 24/7, so if Hello Henry is going to continue with regular posts each week I’m gonna need your help!

If you spot anything weird and wacky on the internets (or anywhere for that matter) relating to Henry Rollins that would make a good Hello Henry post, please let me know! Simply drop me a line at hello AT hellohenry DOT com or send a message via the contact page. I have quite a few post ideas stored away already (some reader submitted, thanks to those readers, you know who you are!) but will need more to keep the blog kicking along for the next year. I don’t want to see this blog become inactive so I’ll be doing my best to keep the posts coming.

Thanks guys!

Deadline Extended for Zine Submissions

A week ago I put a call out for submissions to a new zine I’m working on called ‘Sex, Donuts & Rock n Roll’. Thanks to everyone who answered the call! Some people have requested more time to get their contributions done so I’m extending the deadline to Monday June 20. See the link to the previous post if you missed it and want the run down on what it’s all about. An update since that post, the debut issue may come with a cd sampler …. still figuring out the details on that though. Anyway, it’s gonna be awesome! Greg Sage is on the cover, how can it not be?

Submissions Wanted for New Music Zine

Sex, Donuts & Rock n Roll ZineA non Rollins post today. I’m looking for contributions for a new music zine I’m working on and thought the Hello Henry readership would be the perfect place to find a few submissions.

The zine is called ‘Sex, Donuts & Rock ‘n’ Roll’ (in my part of the world we spell donuts this way!). It’s a music zine that’s interested in all aspects, styles, genres and eras of music. It does not set out to document any one or current scene, and embraces writing about music in a personal way where the writer is part of the story and not merely a reporter of it. In zine terms I guess you’d call it a “perzine for music fanatics”.

The debut issue will feature an interview with Kiddie Punk Records and a host of other articles, features, reviews and music related goodies. If you love music and love to write, I hope you’ll consider making a contribution to this zine. Let’s be clear, this is a fanzine, not a glossy magazine. You won’t get paid, but you will receive a free copy and a warm fuzzy feeling from being part of something cool.

I’ve been making zines on and off for the past 10 years, and have participated in festivals, panels and books on the subject. So rest assured your work will be in good hands with this zine.
