Henry Rollins has had a long association with the outstanding organization Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). They do fantastic work. It’s a shame that an organization like this has to pick up so much of the slack because the military and government aren’t doing enough to take care of returning soldiers. But thank goodness they do. One issue that really offends me is the medical discharge of soldiers on the basis of “pre-existing [and unspecified] personality disorder”. Which basically says to the soldier – there’s nothing about your experience on tour that has effected your mental health – you were fucked in the head to begin with. In most cases that is complete bullshit and is akin to telling a guy who had his leg blown off in a road side bomb that he had no leg before he went to Iraq.
Before I was corrupted by rock n roll, I was an MJ fan! For me he goes down as the most famous case of Body Dysmorphic Disorder that was apparently never diagnosed. It’s not every day a King of Pop dies, so here’s a video of the Jackson 5. And before any hipsters out there laugh, even Henry Rollins has given The Jackson 5 a spin on his radio show!
Randall Johnson is a freelance screenwriter, who in his early days shot a number of films including a few with Henry Rollins. His website showcases some of these videos with production notes and photos on each. Be sure to read the one on the Drinking and Driving video!

Well, sort of…
Hello Henry reader Sarah posted the full version of Into the Night (featuring Henry Rollins and Shirin Neshat) to Live Journal. Thanks Sarah! Download it here:

Here’s a clip from the TV series Into The Night featuring Henry Rollins and Iranian photographer and exile Shirin Neshat. For each episode in the series two people from different walks of life were paired together and filmed for one night.
After filming Rollins turned into somewhat of a Neshat fanboy mentioning her at every opportunity in interviews (like this one – and how could you not, she’s pretty awesome. Check out her work here). This was about 2006. In the following year Henry visited Iran as a tourist (here’s just one interview in which it’s discussed) and now watches Iran with great interest. His latest blog post ..er.. I mean “dispatch” to Vanity Fair muses on the wisdom of the US administration’s response to the recent election.
Oh, and if you’re in need of a chuckle, check out the comments in response to his previous post on the Palin / Letterman affair.
